Malton & Norton Golf Club will be playing host to former Ryder Cup captain Mark James tomorrow in an action-packed evening of entertainment.
The European Tour legend is at the Welham Road club tomorrow, where he will play nine holes with two lucky club members then will be the host for the evening.
James, 60, represented Great Britain & Ireland or Europe in the Ryder Cup seven times including 1989 when Europe tied the match and retained the cup they had won in 1987 and 1995 when Europe won it outright.
He was the European captain in the controversial ‘Battle of Brookline’ in 1999, when the behaviour of the American galleries and team created a great deal of resentment in Europe, and also James’ own actions during the matches drew fire from both sides of the Atlantic.
With 18 European titles to his name and five seniors titles, James is one of the region’s finest golfers and members of Malton & Norton GC are in for a treat as he will be drawing on many of his Ryder Cup experiences during the evening’s entertainment at the clubhouse.
His speech, which will include stories about the ‘Battle of Brookline’, will be followed by a question and answer session, where guests are invited to ask James anything they want about his golfing career.
Malton & Norton Golf Club managing secretary Richard Jagger said: “We have a great evening planned.
“Mark has agreed to play nine holes before his talk, so we have decided to hold a raffle in aid of the captain’s charity, Yorkshire Cancer Research.
“Two lucky winners will get the chance to play with Mark and our professional Michael Brooks.
“The evening’s entertainment will then include an intriguing insight into the world of golf , followed by a question and answers session.”
A limited number of tickets are still available for the event, priced at £30 per head, which includes food.
