Barrowcliff’s Five Elements Ju-Jitsu Club is now welcoming martial arts fans of all ages thanks to ongoing support from Yorkshire Coast Homes (YCH).
The club, originally established at the Gallows Close Centre in February, has been an outstanding success, with students flocking in to learn the martial art of Ju-Jitsu from 3rd Dan Black Belt Instructor Anthony Prior.
A £1,000 donation came from YCH’s “Your Choice, Your Vote” participatory budgeting event in July and this has now been topped up with an additional £320, allowing Prior to extend the club’s capabilities.
Sunday morning classes for adults, between 9am and 11am, have now been introduced to run alongside the junior sessions which take place on Mondays between 4.30pm and 6pm.
Prior said: “We’re very grateful for the ongoing support and very generous donations from Yorkshire Coast Homes which have helped us to purchase the mats and equipment that we need to take the club forward”.
Kevin Allen, YCH Media and Community Liaison Officer, said: “Anthony has done a brilliant job in a very short time, building an excellent club, which is now providing great training and lots of fun for martial arts enthusiasts of all ages.
“We’re very happy to have this opportunity to support this very worthwhile project”.
