WHITBY Bowling Club’s Alan Landers is the new holder of the Scarborough and District Crown Green Bowling Association’s Boyes Cup.

The competition has been sponsored by Boyes Stores for more than 20 yeaars, and four qualifiers from each of the association’s nine member clubs played in this year’s final at Westgate BC, Bridlington.

The event was run by Jackie Stapleton, Graham Walker and Geoff Watson and helpers and was blessed with good weather and just one shower.

In the quarter-finals Barry Maltby (Bridlington Bay) beat Tim Purcell (Robin Hood’s Bay) 21-19, Alan Landers beat Lee Tankard (RH Bay) 21-8, Ian Hadden (Borough) managed to overcome Shirley Dolphin (Westgate) 21-10 and Dennis O’Neill (Dukes Park) got the better of Robert Child (North Cliff) 21-7.

Winning through the semi-finals were Landers, who beat Maltby 21-17, and Hadden, who beat O’Neill 21-12.

Landers was on top form in the final to beat Hadden 21-7 and claim the silverware.
