SCARBOROUGH-based pit mechanic Neil Hopper is loving life in the fast-lane as part of top racer Ryan Farquhar’s team.
The 47-year-old is in Ireland this weekend with the KMR Racing team, which is led by Oliver’s Mount favourite Farquhar for the big NorthWest 200 festival.
The West Ayton-based motorsport fan joined up with the KMR team a couple of years back after being a keen fan of the Ulsterman, who is a regular winner of events all over the United Kingdom, as well as Oliver’s Mount.
“It all started a few years ago, I was a member of Ryan’s supporters’ club in Ireland and then I started to sell T-shirts to help raise funds for his racing team.
“KMR Racing are self-funding so anything that fans can do helps.
“One day Ryan rang me up out of the blue and asked if I wanted to help him out the next time he was competing at the Mount.
“And since then my role has grown from there, now I am a member of his pit crew.”
After the NorthWest 200, Hopper has a few days off and then he will be heading to the Isle of Man for the legendary TT Races.
“I am really looking forward to the races in Ireland and the Isle of Man.
“Ryan has been in top form this year and he won all of his races at Oliver’s Mount in the Cup. He also won in Cookstown and I am loving every minute of being part of his team.
“Ryan has also had another racer, Adrian Archibald, join the team, and with another set to sign up soon the future is looking very bright for KMR Racing.”
