Former Westway boxer Nina Meinke impressed in her bout against Katie Taylor, but eventually fell to a seventh-round stoppage defeat at Wembley Stadium tonight.

Meinke, who is now based back in her native Germany, started brightly against her highly-favoured opponent Taylor.

The German landed a number of sharp counter-lefts in the first round.

Taylor started to settle into the contest in the second, letting her hands go more regularly.

That pattern followed into the third, fourth and fifth as Meinke tired and had to take plenty of punishment.

Boxing off the back foot into the sixth, Meinke continued to show a great chin and heart, as she weathered more pressure from Taylor.

Referee Howard Foster had seen enough into the seventh round of the 10-round contest though and waved the fight off.
