A teenage Scarborough swimming coach has been hand-picked to attend a national academy.
Seventeen-year-old Tom Heaton, from Newby, has been accepted into the National Young Coaches Academy (NYCA) for 2013/2014.
Heaton will attend the Academy alongside 199 other coaches aged between 16 and 19, 20 each from 10 different sports.
The Academy programme will start in December 2013 and the young coaches will be supported through to December 2014.
Heaton will attend the Youth Sport Trust National Young Coaches Academy will be held from December 20 to 22 at Loughborough University, and he will also receive mentor support and access to the Young Coaching Network, a coach development coaching session at the British Swimming Championships in 2014, two further NYCA development days and other opportunities to learn at performance swiming clubs.
Scarborough Swimming Club head coach Sam Greetham said: “This is an excellent achievement for Tom and a great honour for the club.”
