Seamer’s Ben Render has celebrated his call-up to the England junior international flat green bowls team by winning a national competition.

The Yorkshire star, who plays for Nafferton BC, is delighted to have won the Bowls England National Two-Wood Singles Championship, sponsored by Collette Worldwide Holidays.

“I am overjoyed at my success, beating some tough opposition in the semi and final by beating two of my England under-25 teammates.”

The former Seamer junior cricket star clinched the coveted crown at Beach House Park, Worthing, thanks to successive wins against two of his new junior international teammates Travis Meller (Shanklin BC, IoW) and Louis Ridout (Ilminster BC, Somerset) in the semi-final and final respectively.

In the third round, Render had beaten Gary May (Headington BC, Oxon) 16-9 and then saw off Dominic Tuckett (Culm Vale, Devon) 18-8 in the quarter-finals.

Ridout had reached the final thanks to a one-shot win against Scott Edwards (Hove & Kingsway BC, Sussex).
