A BRITISH Olympic hopeful has spoken of her enjoyment at giving a training session to a group of Scarborough school pupils.
A number of students at George Pindar Community Sports College recently had the opportunity to work with Great Britain 400m athlete Lesley Owusu.
She said: “The day was wonderful and it was a pleasure to deliver a training session and give a talk to your delightful students. I also enjoyed running with them and showing them a few technical drills and skills as well as a mini circuit.
“They exhausted me but it was great fun! I really enjoyed speaking to some of the girls at lunch and learning more about their interests and goals.”
Owusu is a highly accomplished and versatile international athlete who has competed at the European, World and Commonwealth stages. Lesley is a former 400m British champion and still remains the British and European record holder for the 600 yard dash.
She holds a first class degree in Broadcast Journalism and English Literature and an MA in Mass Communications and Political Science.
Teacher Ryan Blott said: “The aim of the sessions was to enthuse, inspire and motivate our students to work hard to achieve their goals in sports, school and beyond the classroom. We wish Lesley good luck for her upcoming 400m race at Birmingham hopefully she will achieve the time needed for her to represent Team GB at London 2012.”
