Two of East Ayton’s Primary School’s strongest swimmers, Caitlin Wilson and Katie Tomlinson from Year Six, competed in the National Schools Biathlon Championships in Birmingham.

The Biathlon comprises a 50m swim followed by an 800m run. In order to qualify for a place at the championships, both girls had to finish among the top six places at the earlier Yorkshire finals in October.

Both girls performed strongly with Caitlin finishing 14th overall, and Katie 26th. As a result both athletes have now qualified for the National Biathlon Championships, which take place next April at the Olympic Park in London.

East Ayton also won the Scarborough Primary Schools Swimming Gala at Scarborough Indoor Swimming Pool.

A keenly contested series of races saw St Peter’s claim third place, with Newby & Scalby finishing in second place.
