DANNY Price is stepping up his push for pro honours on Saturday night when he takes on Zimbabwean Hastings Rasani at Peterlee Leisure Centre.

The 26-year-old Scarborough fighter will be in for a sterner test after his pro debut lasted just 41 seconds at Bolton’s Reebok Stadium.

The cruiserweight floored Slovakian Michal Tomko twice during the opening round of that bout, forcing the referee to bring the proceedings to a swift conclusion.

Rasani, 39, is ranked 99 places above Price in the world so he does have the credentials to make things very difficult for the Scarborough man. He has fought England’s former world heayweight champion David Haye and has twice challenged for the commonwealth title at heavyweight level.

Price is under no illusions about the task that lies in front of him, but he is still in his usual confident frame of mind going into the four round bout.

He said: “It is still different for me having been an amateur for 13 years.

“I did want a bit more from my first fight, but if I finished everyone after 41 seconds then I wouldn’t complain.

“This one will be different though, I won’t be looking to knock him out or anything like that, if it happens then it is a bonus.

“This will probably be my toughest fight to date, but I am ready for it, even if it does go the distance.

“Things are still very new. I didn’t even get hit in my last fight, so I’ll no doubt be able to sample what that actually feels like in the pro game.

“I actually wouldn’t mind if it went the full four rounds because it would be nice to get the experience in.

“I have been doing a lot of sparring recently and I have been hurting the lads I’ve been sparring with, so I am very confident of picking up the win.”

Price already has his next bout lined up for February 18 when he will be taking on Welsh southpaw Hari Miles.

Price is currently looking for a sponsorship boost as he continues his assault on the professional scene.
