Scarborough’s former cruiserweight boxer Danny Price is predicting a victory for one of his former victims in this weekend’s pay-per-view showdown between Tony Bellew and Nathan Cleverly.
Price, who beat Bellew 8-7 in the ABA final back in 2006, thinks the Liverpudlian needs the knockout to beat Welshman Cleverly, but is backing him to do just that in the latter stages of the fight.
“I could be wrong but Cleverly looks beaten already,” said Price.
“Bellew is playing the mind games and it looks like he’s got the upper hand psychologically.
“If he’s going to win this fight, Bellew needs the knockout, he won’t beat Cleverly on points.
“I’m going to go for a late stoppage win for Bellew.”
Price insists Bellew was a fan of playing mindgames even in the pair’s amateur days, when the Scarborough man emerged victorious.
He added: “Bellew loved to chat before a fight, which is fair enough.
“It wasn’t a close fight at all though. I went into the last round one point down and remember wondering how I was losing the fight.
“I thought I had won it comfortably, but I got the win and that is all that matters.”
