Top boxing promoter Frank Maloney was a relieved man after Scarborough’s Danny Price scraped a 58-57 victory over Welshman Hari Miles at the Liverpool Echo Arena on Saturday night.
Price cut a dejected figure after getting the narrow verdict, despite making a significant step-up in class.
And while Maloney, who was promoting his first bill on Boxnation following his split from Sky Sports, was relieved that Price took the narrow win, he was left unimpressed with his performance on the night.
Speaking to The Scarborough News, Maloney said: “I wasn’t impressed with the fight and I had a chat with Danny about it in the changing rooms afterwards.
“The only good thing about his performance was the result but he doesn’t need me to tell him that, he said it himself afterwards.”
Maloney was quick to announce a card for Saturday December 8 when David Price, who dismantled Audley Harrison in the first round in front of a boisterous home crowd on Saturday evening, will tackle experienced brawler Matt Skelton, who also secured a win earlier in the evening at the Echo on Saturday,
The former Westway ABC man could be in line to take up a place on the bill. Maloney added: “We’ll be having a look at that this week, nothing has been sorted yet.”
Price’s win elevated him above his opponent Miles into 13th spot in the domestic cruiserweight rankings.
