Andy Crowe bagged top spot in the second event of the 92nd annual Filey Fishing Festival, the Filey Open Codling Challenge shore match.

Scarborough angler Crowe netted a superb 29lb 8drm haul, almost double the weight of second-placed Brian Harland, from Whitby, who finished with 14-8-4.

Ann Colling of Filey Brigg Angling Society, said: “Sunday’s entries were up again, this time by 24. The festival is well and truly off to a good start.

“Quite a lot of fish have been brought to the scales so far, with cod being prolific.

“We have had a few juvenile anglers take part over the weekend but would like to see more ladies entering the matches.”
