Scarborough Gymnastics Academy earn British Championship treble

Scarborough Gymnastics Academy scooped a superb hat-trick of titles at the British TeamGym Championships in Liverpool.

Coach Nikii Walker said: “Everybody at the club is extremely proud of the gymnasts’ achievements.

“This is the first time that the club has won three British titles within the championships, which is definitely something to celebrate.

“Thank you to the SGA coaching/judging team who have committed many hours to prepare the gymnasts for the event.

“All the hard work has definitely paid off for the gymnasts this year.”

On the first day of competition, the Academy’s junior mixed team won gold, receiving the highest score on all pieces of apparatus – floor, trampette and tumble.

Day two was another fantastic day for the Scarborough club as the youth girls micro team and the mixed green challenge team managed to scoop gold in their events, winning the British Challenge titles in the process.

The purple challenge team also performed brilliantly, considering that for a lot of their members it was their first time at the British Championships, and they managed to improve upon their qualification score.
