Former Scarborough and Westway boxer Matthew Tinker narrowly missed out on glory in the London ABA elite senior final after a controversial points defeat against last year’s champion Joshau Buatsi.
Tinker, who also narrowly lost in the Irish elite senior final live on international television against European number one and world number three Joe Ward, signed up for the London event at the last minute after moving to Kensington for work.
The light heavyweight fought three times in consecutive days to set up a semi-final against Umar Sadiq of Repton Boxing Club.
Despite suffering a jaw injury following a clash of heads, Tinker won by unanimous decision to set up the final clash with the highly-rated Buatsi.
Tinker, who has joined the reputable Dale Youth Boxing Club in London - the former club of James DeGale and George Groves - only had 24 hours to prepare for the final, including a day at work.
Buatsi meanwhile, had only faced one fight to get to the final.
Despite many thinking Tinker had won the fight, Buatsi was handed the decision.
Tinker said: “I’d like to wish Buatsi all the best for the next stage of the competition now.”
Tinker is on the hunt for anybody who would be interested in sponsoring him.
