After the rain, local fisheries are brimful as anglers at Monday’s GB Angling open fourth round found, with pegs swamped by rising water.
However, while the influx of extra water did little to encourage the fish to feed, several carp were encountered up in the water during the early stages of the match, which was the fourth event in the series, and was staged at Rosedale Lake, with one or two pegs affected by the swampy conditions.
Winner Tony Mellor offered hair rigged banded hard pellet at 2.5 foot depth via the floating pole at 14 metres and banked seven fish to 4lb while loose feeding pellets from peg 2.
A switch to margin pole tactics with maggot hook baits then located an additional carp plus several roach and perch which boosted his final total to a creditable 27lb 4oz.
Thanks to his efforts he tops League A with a maximum 24 points having won all four rounds to date.
