VIDEO: Matt Conner’s golf tips - perfecting your putting strike

When striking an iron or a wood the ball will not fly anywhere near as well if the ball is not struck from the centre of the ball.

When putting however the ball will still roll if it is struck from the centre, heel or toe of the putter.

Because of this most golfers do not appreciate when putting how important striking the ball out of the centre of the putter face is.

An accurate strike from the centre of the putter will mean that you will have better distance control and the ball will roll and not skid.

A good drill to help improve your quality of strike is to place a tee either side of your putter so that it forms a gate.

Now place a ball in the centre of the tees and hit some putts. You are trying to swing the putter between the tees without hitting either of them.

If you contact either of them you would have produced a bad strike.

Practice this drill to help reinforce a good putting stoke helping you strike the ball from the centre every time.
