The next generation of young swimmers in the Scarborough area competed in the primary schools gala at the town’s indoor pool.

The 14 schoools were split into three categories, the Sea Lions section was won by Northstead, the Dolphins category by East Ayton and Hackness scooped top spot in the Sharks section.

Each team had four boys and four girls, who took part in a variety of individual and relay events.

Organiser Mike Tildsley said: “The event was excellent and all the swimmers, there were well over a hundred there on the day, seemed to really enjoy themselves.

“I would like to say a huge thank-you to the sports leadership students, who came up to the pool from Filey School to help out with the officiating and marshalling throughout the gala.

“A lot of the events that we run in the area for the primary schools now rely a lot on the hard work of these leaders, who gain a lot of valuable experience from helping in this way.”
