Both sides were in the contest until Victoria pulled away late on to take maximum points.

Zac Metcalfe, Joe Messruther, Alex Paddock, Liam Braithwaite and Nicky Brining all scored tries for Keith Paddock’s side.

Only converted two of these were converted by Alex Paddock to add to their points tally.

Coach Paddock said: “It was tit-for-tat all the way through.

“Stand-outs on the day for me were Liam Braithwaite, who made massive metres with every carry, and Nicky Brining for his ball distribution and defence, which were outstanding.

“We had bags of effort we just couldn’t convert that into tries.

“The lads just did the basics wrong at times, turning over cheap ball and giving away silly penalties.”

The Pirates are on home turf again this Saturday when they host Ossett Trinity at Eastway, with the game kicking off at 2.30pm.

Trinity currently sit in third place in the Division Two standings, having won seven of their nine games so far this season.

Paddock’s Pirates dropped down to sixth with their defeat on Saturday, having won four and lost six of their league outings so far this campaign.
