SCARBOROUGH’S Christopher Purdy is looking for his team-mates to end the season in style.
Scarborough have been in scintillating form of late and Purdy wants the side to carry on where they left off from their 50-11 hammering of Castleford at Silver Royd last time round for their clash at Ilkley tomorrow.
Dave Beck’s men have the opportunity to move into sixth place in the Yorkshire One table with victory in West Yorkshire tomorrow afternoon - a remarkable statistic given Scarborough’s terrible first half to the season and the fact they have been looking over their shoulders most of the season to date.
Purdy said: “We’ve been playing some good rugby recently and confidence is high.
“It would be great to finish the season off in style and try and nail down a midtable place, or even higher.
“We had a very poor first half to the season but we are coming good at the right time and we are picking up some excellent results at the moment.”
Ilkley currently lie one place above the Silver Royd men in the table in eighth, but a win for the visitors could push them above rivals York and Knottingley, as well as their opponents.
And with Scarborough sitting 18 points adrift of the relegation places, thoughts are suddenly starting to turn to a place in the top half of the league table.
But Purdy knows that the trip west tomorrow won’t automatically yield another victory.
He added: “I’ve never played at Ilkley myself but I’ve been told it is a very tough place to go and pick up a win.
“But the boys are all up for the game and we are determined to go there and put in a good performance that will hopefully bring us the win.
“They have a strong forward pack but hopefully the form of Phil Stewart, Billy Parker and Paul White, as well as the rest of the lads, will hopefully carry us through to the win.”
Scarborough’s tie at Ilkley kicks-off at 3pm.
