There are still four teams in with a shout of promotion to Division B.

But, despite losing to Duncombe Park 2nds, Scarborough 3rds, who play basement club Hospitals this weekend, look favourites to go up along with Staithes 2nds but they do have to play fourth-placed Thornton Dale, which may leave the opportunity for the Helmsley-based team, who have to travel to Ganton.

Barry Wheldon, 74, helped Park to 166-8 on their own pitch against Scarborough 3rds, for whom Chris Hunter claimed 3-54 from 19 overs and Jordan Welford snapped up 4-45, but in reply the visitors collapsed to be all back in the pavilion for 70, veteran Chris Ford claiming 3-40 and Will Smith 6-30.

Scalby 2nds were put into bat by Staithes 2nds struggling to a first innings total of 123-8, Bradley Walker topping the run-makers with 39.

After the break Mathew Sanderson, 32, and Paul Wilson, 49no, knocked off the arrears in the 35th over for the loss of four wickets.

Thornton Dale went on a run spree on their own track, hitting an impressive 246-5, Tim Hunt, 80, and unbeaten knocks from Oliver Sigsworth, 79, and Iain Farrow, 27, antagonising Seamer 2nds, who could only muster 107 in reply, Craig Baker remaining unbeaten on 42 as all-rounder Tim Hunt picked up 3-31.

Atul Palakottil, 50, and Rob Gretton, 25, helped Ganton to 145-8 against Wykeham 2nds, for whom John Palmer claimed 3-35 and Harry Gunning 3-47 but despite Andy Shepherdson hitting 51 in reply the home team fell 10 runs adrift at the close, Gretton claiming 3-13.
