EBBERSTON 2nds were promoted to the Readers Beckett League as champions of Derwent Valley League division A without facing a ball in their final match of the season at Oriel.

The home side’s slim chances of gaining promotion as runners-up was quashed by this rained-off game.

Ravenscar secured instant promotion back to the Beckett League after their 10-wicket rout of relegated Sherburn 2nds.

Will Warwick snapped up 5-15 and Jish Rewcroft 3-19 as the struggling hosts were skittled for just 36 runs.

Joe Bayes capped a superb season with the bat, the young opener unbeaten on 24 as the visitors wrapped up the maximum points win to finish a point behind Ebberston 2nds.

John Howden had hit an unbeaten 79 and Mal Spaven 56 for Heslerton 2nds, who were 171-4 from 32 overs when rain halted play in their game at Forge Valley 3rds, scuppering the visitors’ promotion challenge.

The remaining issue in division B, the second promotion spot behind champions Great Habton, was also wrapped up as Sewerby 3rds gained five points when their game at Flixton 3rds fell victim to the weather.

Habton capped their stunning season with an 80-run win at Sewerby 4ths.

Will Curtis led the way with 76, with Robin Richardson striking 59 and John Lumley 44 as they poasted 255-6, Matthew Rusbridge-Burns taking three wickets for the home side.

Rusbridge-Burns scored 43 and Ryan Bartram 30 in reply, but the home sell were dismissed for 175 in reply, Curtis once again underlining his all-round abilities with 4-50.

Kevin Vasey took 8-14 as Seamer 3rds eased to a seven-wicket win at home to Snainton 2nds.

The relegated visitors were skittled for 43, Jake Moore smacking an unbeaten 28 in reply to seal the win.

Nawton Grange 2nds ensured promotion as runners-up in division C after winning by five wickets at home to Ganton 2nds.

Liam Cousins’ superb unbeaten 91 steered Ganton to 159, George Bentley taking 3-41 for the visitors.

In reply, Joe Lush’s unbeaten 66 helped Grange to victory, with Ian Ward adding 41 for the Ryedale side.

Wold Newton 2nds sealed the title success with five points from their rained-off game at Thornton Dale 2nds.
