Yorkshire Coast Titans under-13s rugby league team will be looking to bounce back from a 48-6 defeat at the hands of Keighley with a success at Wibsey on Saturday.

The Titans’ third home match of the season, against Keighley Cougars at Filey Community Sports started in the best possible way for the hosts.

A poor kick-off from Keighley gave Titans a scrum leading to Rowan McKenzie powering through with a 50-metre run, scoring directly under the posts with Josh Pickering converting giving Titans an early 6-0 lead.

Keighley swiftly responded with some good tackles leading them to score a try but not converting. An error from the Titans saw Keighley come through with another try, this time converted, leaving the score 10-6 to the Cougars.

An injury for Titans put them down to 10 men against an 11- strong Keighley side. Another good run from the Cougars after the re-start saw them score again but they failed to convert.

Despite good defence from Titans, including some outstanding tackles from man of the match Tom Burton, the visitors found the try-line once more with a successful conversion making it 20-6 to the Cougars after 20 minutes.

More excellent tackles and ball rip from Burton gained Titans some valuable ground but both teams failed to score any more points before half-time.

A good start to the second half saw Keighley score a try and conversion in the first minute.

Titans responded with some great defence but Keighley were still proving too strong scoring again with a conversion.

The hosts gave it their all but they failed to find the try-line with Keighley finding a gap, and running straight through for a try and conversion.

The re-start saw the Titans’ best defence yet, keeping Keighley back and gaining some ground before another injury put them down to nine men, leading to the game being abandoned.
