Scarborough Pirates player-coach Adam Lee has hailed the commitment and efforts of his squad after they won Yorkshire Men’s division one.
Their success was tainted slightly after their scheduled opponents Moldgreen withdrew from their clash at Eastway on Saturday - handing them the title.
Lee said: “They (Moldgreen) took our day away from us a bit.
“We wanted to go out and win the title in style, but there isn’t a lot we can do about it.
“I couldn’t have asked for a better first season as coach of the summer side, the lads have been great.
“The commitment that they’ve shown is unbelievable and we’ve deserved to win the league title.
“The winter side helped us bring through a few younger players like Carl Stephenson and Nathan Hakings, and they’ve taken to the summer team well too.
“Hopefully we can make the step into the Premier now and look to make an impact there.”
Lee’s sentiments were echoed by club skipper Dave Douthwaite. He said: “Adam has been great this season, and so have the whole team.
“We had a few blips early on but we bounced back and managed to go on a bit of a run.
“It’s great to win the league again and I’m proud to have captained the side to it.”
Coach Lee also wanted to thank people behind the scenes, adding: “I have to thank Firth Firmac, the Newlands Hotel and Sinclairs Plumbing and Heating for their support this season.”
