SCARBOROUGH Pirates chairman Dave Marsden is relishing Saturday’s Yorkshire Premier East League clash at fellow high-flyers York Loko (2.30pm start).

York are top of the table on points scored but the Pirates are breathing down their necks and an away victory would see Chris Keld’s side go to the top of the pile.

Marsden said: “It is a massive game and the fact that both teams are up at the top of the division adds a bit of extra spice.

“We lost our first game of the season but have bounced back with some top displays including last Saturday’s 48-22 defeat of Knottingley at Eastway.

“We will go there with plenty of confidence and it would be great to beat them.

“The likes of Mike Picken and Jamie Broadmore are impressing for us and showing off their ability.”

The Pirates are being led superbly this season by head coach Chris Keld and Marsden was full of praise for him.

He added: “Chris is doing a cracking job and is working very hard with the squad.

“We still have four or five players yet to return including Kane Seavers, Dan Stanley and Dom Brining so it shows the strength in depth we have now.

“Our training sessions are also very good as they are taken by Chris, Nick Burgess and Craig Farrell, and they have all added their input to the side.”

The support for the Pirates continues to grow with the crowds turning out in force at Eastway, Eastfield.

Marsden said: “The supporters are coming down in force and enjoying the action.

“I think the fans appreciate the attacking rugby that we play and they come down and enjoy whats on offer in what is a very competitive league.”
