A POOR first-half display saw Scarborough Pirates under-17s lose out 30-16 on the road at Hull Dockers in their Yorkshire Combination League division two clash.

Pirates left themselves with a mountain to climb after conceding 24 points without reply in the opening half of the contest.

The Scarborough lads emerged from half-time looking like a different side and within five minutes of the re-start were back in the game when Tom Orange went over the line. Alex Paddock converted to reduce the arrears to 24-6.

Nicky Brining and Ryan Benjamin then both touched down to cut the home side’s lead to eight points.

However, with the Pirates pushing for another score, the Dockers broke away to end the game as a contest with just a few minutes remaining.

Pirates are on the road at Thornhill Trojans this Sunday.
