Scarborough Pirates’ Council Cup run came to a crashing halt with a 32-18 loss at Hull Isberg on Saturday afternoon, despite the visitors having steamed into a 12-0 lead.

Jamie Cornish and Josh McNeil scored a try apiece to put the visitors 12-0 ahead in the first half.

Cornish claimed a second try in the second period, with McNeil converting all three, but the home side fought back to book their place in the next round.

Pirates player-coach Adam Lee said: “We had a great first half but we were just beaten by their fitness in the second half. Our man of match was hooker Nicky Brining.”
