A superb and disciplined Scarborough Pirates side had a fantastic start to 2014 with an 8-0 win on the road at Beverley.

Beverley had tried to break through the Pirates rearguard, but were unable to find a gap for that all important try.

Scarborough’s first try came from centre Jack Johnson in the first half, with the second try coming courtesy of winger Jamie Cornish after the interval.

Coach Adam Lee was delighted with his side’s efforts, he said: “I couldn’t have asked for more from the lads. Our defending was superb.

“Our completion rate was up there with our best of the season, and with their pitch being very narrow that was important.

“Our two second rows, Alex Collins and Dave Douthwaite, both stood out, their work-rate was immense.”

The Pirates will be looking to build on their solid start to 2014 when they travel to tackle Fenners this Saturday.
