THERE were few in the ground at Silver Royd on Saturday more relieved to see Scarborough RUFC collect their maiden victory of the 2011-12 campaign than recent Australian acquisition Rob James.
The full-back had yet to taste victory in a Scarborough shirt having seen his side fall to defeats against Castleford and rivals Bridlington, but his hat-trick of conversions and a superb solo effort to go over the try line helped his side to a big win.
James said: “This was my first chance to play full-back where I have played for most of my rugby career and I really enjoyed being on the winning side here at Silver Royd.
“With Craig coming in we really gelled for the first time and ‘played’ for the full 80 minutes.”
With Tom Harrison sin-binned James took over the kicking duties and converted a hat-trick of penalties in the second half.
He added: “It was good to get some place kicking practice in which gives us a bit of variety in that department.”
Finally commenting on his superb try near the end, James added: “I fielded a big hoof out of defence and backed myself under the high-ball I returned to them with interest.
“It was great to get the bounce and score and to take the win.”
