Scarborough RUFC officials have set the wheels in motion to upgrade their facilities at Silver Royd.

The ambitious plans, outlined in an open letter to members, sponsors and supporters by chief executive Graeme Young recently, include a new £500,000 4G artificial pitch, a cricket pavilion and a new digital scoreboard.

The club requested feedback from members after outlining their ideas to further develop their £4million Scalby Road HQ.

“We’ve been getting a wide range of feedback from members,” said Young.

“There’s been a lot of interest in the artificial pitch proposal.

“We need to look at these plans as a club and see which ideas would give us a good return on investment, while also helping us achieve our main goal, which is to improve provision for rugby union in the town.”

WHAT'S INCLUDED IN THE PLAN?

* New digital scoreboard

* 4G pitch

* Toilets in the main stand

* Purpose-built cricket pavilion

* Wet areas for the gym

* Viewing area for minis

* Food/drink kiosk

* Redesign of clubhouse

Young admits some of the proposed developments will happen sooner than others and is hopeful a new digital scoreboard could be in place as soon as the start of the 2016/17 season, while the 4G pitch could come to fruition within 24-26 months.

He added: “I’d envisage the 4G pitch, which we’d ideally place on pitch two but could still go on pitch one, would take longer than others.

“I’m discussing the idea of a new digital scoreboard at the moment and hope to have that in place soon.”
