Last week Scarborough hosted Driffield and Hornsea under-nines to under-12s in a triangular tournament and although the games were played in miserable wet conditions, that didn’t spoil the standard of rugby.
Scarborough’s under-nines came out on top in both of their games and have been playing some good rugby lately.
It was a busy weekend for the club as Scarborough also sent three teams to compete in the East Yorkshire under-eights rugby festival at Beverley and there was still 15 of Scarborough’s youngest players taking part in an indoor training session at silver Royd confirming how strong the minis section of the club is at the moment.
Scarborough’s victory over a strong Pocklington side completed a series of impressive performances which included games against some tough opposition such as Ionians, Bridlington and Driffield.
Richard Sharpe and Jamie Dennis scored the bulk of tries with Isaac Grunwell and Max Bryon also crossing the line a number of times. Top tackler went to the ever-improving newcomer Ted Pithers.
Scarborough’s thriving ‘younger’ section were able to send two teams for this age group and both teams produced some great performances.
Games against Malton and Hornsea turned out to be very close run and entertaining matches.
Samuel Jenkinson continued his rich try-scoring form closely followed by Tiernan Ingham, Mikey Hope, Josh Moir, Harry Burgess, Lucas Brown and brothers Paul and Sam Tait.
Top tacklers were Jed Wood and Lewis Speaton. Harry Rowe and Ryan Speaton, both making their debuts, also got on the try scoring list.
A huge thanks go to coaches David White, Alex Sharp, Nick Burgess, Kevin Hope, Nick Ingham and the support given by the many parents who braved very muddy conditions.
Over the Easter holidays we will be running a three day rugby camp from Wednesday April 3 until Friday April 5.
Each day will run from 10am to 3pm with both indoor and outdoor sessions.
All boys aged between eight-16 are welcome to attend and children will have to bring packed lunches with them. Coaches will include myself and current 1st XV players.
The cost will be £5 per day for members and £10 a day for non-members of the rugby club. To book, please email me on firstname.lastname@example.org or call the rugby club on 01723 357740 and leave your name, age and a contact number.
Last year the camps were a huge success and many of the children carried on their rugby experience by joining the rugby club and are now playing regularly across the age groups.
Last Wednesday Graham & Raincliff School competed well at the East Yorkshire Schools’ Finals at Beverley RUFC.
The competition was due to be played at Driffield RUFC but was moved last minute due to the weather.
Graham played well throughout the tournament and put in some good performances against some of the best schools in the East Yorkshire area.
Unfortunately the came up just short and were not able to make it through to the Yorkshire finals.
This Sunday’s fixtures include the under-13s away against Thirsk and the under-15s away against Driffield.
