There were so many pleasing aspects to Saturday’s victory at home to a very organised York side.
After suffering what I thought was an unlucky defeat in our first game of the season at Selby, it was always going to be important to get some points on the board and get going with our season.
I was really pleased with how the guys shaped up against a decent York side, who I know have been preparing very well in pre-season.
As we did against Selby, we enjoyed good possession during the game, and although we tired towards the end and the guys were struggling a bit, we still limited York and were dominant.
I feel the scoreline doesn’t reflect our dominance of the game looking back.
The whole team really played their part - in particular Loni Loni and Isaac Faamau were outstanding - but we’ve come to expect that from Isaac now.
Our backs looked dangerous every time we had the ball with Graham Hogg instrumental in both organising things and also orchestrating our attacks
Two of the lads who definitely warrant particular credit from me this week are Richard Scales and Ethynne Terblanche.
Both of them performed out of their skin for us despite lacking pre-season game time and match fitness.
We really threw them in at the deep end and they responded superbly, so good on them two lads.
Saturday’s derby encounter at Bridlington will no doubt be another tasty affair.
We are building up a bit of momentum now and we definitely improved from the Selby game on Saturday, so I’ll be keen to see those improvements continue.
I’m expecting a big push from the guys at Dukes Park, hopefully we can come back with a win.
