LEE DOUGLAS: Valkyries are putting us to shame

Although they ultimately lost their game against York RI on Sunday, our women’s team are really going from strength-to-strength.

It’s great to see the Valkyries performing so well, they’re really starting to realise just how good they can be.

York are a really strong outfit and they matched them.

They have great numbers at training and often put us to shame, which in all honesty is a little embarrassing for us.

Credit to them, they’re a real asset to the club, they can take heart from their improvement.

Saturday was a frustrating day for us all, in particular the North Ribb contingent, who had travelled such a long way only for the game to be abandoned two minutes into the second half.

It’ll be all the more annoying if we don’t repeat our performance when they come over again.

We were in total control of the game at 14-0 up and would’ve comfortably seen the game out and taken the win.

Despite that, we mustn’t rest on our laurels the next time they are at Silver Royd.

You never know what sort of performance you’re going to get from this group though.

One week we’ll have great numbers at training, put the right preparation in and go out and perform.

The next we have dwindling numbers during the week and don’t perform on the Saturday as a result.

We have to switch back on this week, we have a tough game at Old Brodleians.

They’re never an easy team to play against and are having a good season up in fourth in the league, so we’ll need to be at our best if we’re to win there.
