We recorded a much-needed win against North Ribblesdale on Saturday and we need to kick on now, starting with our trip to Old Brodleians this weekend.
It was a good performance, and it was hard work.
When you’re struggling for confidence it is difficult.
The ability has always been there, we just needed the confidence to go with it.
North Ribb were no pushovers, they made life very difficult for us.
They came with a gameplan and they stuck to it.
We had a lot of players missing on the day and I was very pleased with the lads who took to the field.
Their attitude was fantastic and I couldn’t be more pleased with them.
There will always be changes and it is very much a squad game.
Corey Dennis made a big difference coming back into the side.
It was his deft little kick over the top that allowed Tom Harrison to go over and it is moments like that that change games.
Jesse Macdonald grabbed his first try for the club on Saturday and that can only do him the world of good.
He still has work to do on his scrummaging, technically he still gets a little bit high, but we can sort that out over time.
Jesse was struggling early on against some wise old heads in the Ribb’ side, but he came back on and played his part.
We travel to Old Brods this weekend and whether they are bottom of the league or not, it will be a tough game for us.
It’s always a tough place to go, especially with the slope, but we need to go there full of confidence after our win.
They tend to be very forward-dominated and we will need to front up to that, scrummage well and hopefully that will result in a win for us.
Our set-piece will be key this weekend. Pontefract scored three penalty tries against them last week.
Old Brods’ will be working on their set-pieces in training this week, I’m sure of that, and we will need to deal with that.
