Over 60 former and current players will take to the field tomorrow night for a tag-rugby tournament as part of Scarborough Rugby Club’s seventh annual reunion at Silver Royd.
Following the Dedication of the club’s new Memorial Ground, conducted by former club captain the Rev Clive Burnard at 6pm, six teams will battle for the Scarborough Reunion Tag title under the Silver Royd lights.
Richard Dean, the Norsemen’s manager will take charge of an religiously-themed ‘God Squad’, comprising of three teams appropriately named the ‘Disciples’, the ‘Samaritans’ and the ‘Apostles.’
This holy bunch will see a cross-section of club talent ranging from fourth teamers to ex-Scottish exiles international Gavin Sharp.
The group will also star first team squad members Chris Purdy, Tom Harrison, Ian Williams, Chris Mabbott, Jaxon Tite and skipper Nick Ingham.
On the other side of the draw, teams led by Dave Aldcroft, Simon Smith and Andy Downes, the Promenaders, First Team Veterans and the Colonials respectively, will feature a host of former club stars.
The Promenaders will field Scarborough record holder for tries in a single game Mike Snell, Clive Burnard and the only lady in the tournament, Yorkshire and North of England’s Zoe Aldcroft.
The first team vets will include Shaun Fearn, Marcus Edwards and former player coach Grant Lenton while the Colonials include former club hooker Nigel Scarborough who has flown back from Austrialia for the reunion.
It’s sure to be great fun for players and spectators alike and the best tournament yet.
Events on the paddock will be followed by what is bound to be a great social evening with first team shirts for the coming season and past players ties being presented.
