PRAISE has flooded in for Scarborough RUFC’s excellent facilities after Silver Royd was thrust into the county limelight at the weekend.
A bumper record crowd of 2,023 packed into the Scalby ground for a great day of rugby action, which climaxed with the Roses match between Yorkshire and Lancashire.
Lancashire came out on top in the 13-try extravaganza, but that certainly didn’t dampen the mood.
Lancashire coach Mark Nelson said: “The whole package was excellent. Scarborough’s magnificent facilities are Championship standard, the pitch was superb, everything about the place was spot on.
“The whole day was a credit to everyone involved and a glowing testament to the appeal that county rugby has.
“This was the best Lancashire performance in a Roses match since I’ve been involved.
“We had a lot of old heads and a lot of pace and we probably played the better rugby.”
Former England prop forward Fran Cotton was also very impressed.
He added: “I was really impressed with the facilities on offer at Scarborough.
“It was a great day of rugby and the club’s set-up is up there with some of the best in the country out of the top flight. A great day was topped off by a Lancashire win, which was good to see.”
