VIDEO: Lee Douglas: This club should be playing big games more often

We’re preparing hard this week for our big Yorkshire Shield semi-final at Selby on Saturday.

It’s quite sad that a team and a club like this is saying a game like this semi-final is the biggest for a number of years.

A club this size should be playing big league and cup games like this every year.

I certainly want to be winning cups, winning promotion and playing in big games.

It’s just for everyone here to buy into that now and for everyone to want that and jump on board.

This club needs more success.

This club needs better success than just playing in a semi-final and if that puts pressure on me and the players, that’s tough.

But this is a big game for us as our league form tailed somewhat after a good start.

We got a big win at an extremely good Doncaster Phoneix side on Saturday and that couldn’t have come at a better time for the lads.

It drives me mad that one minute the lads can put in a performance like that on Saturday and then go out and lose to one of the bottom four sides.

It’s that inconsistency that’s costing us and it’s something we need to combat.

They’re good players, and I’ve told them they’re good players and if they prepare right and turn up on the day then we’ll cause anyone problems.

It’s no coincidence that when the preparation hasn’t been spot on, that the results and performances have suffered as well.

Preparation is absolutely key to what we want to achieve here and if the lads put the work in, we will have more big games like this to look forward to in the future.

We have to go down to Selby with confidence now after an exceptional performance.

I have no worries about Selby, they’re a good team but I’m not bothering with the opposition.

If we prepare right and the guys put the effort in, we’ll have a very good chance of doing well and having something to show for our season.

Everytime we go away from home we get very good support, no matter where the game is. I hope we see a few familiar faces this week too.
