The Seasiders played with a stiff northerly wind behind them at a cold Silver Royd and took an early lead through a penalty from skipper Tom Ratcliffe.

They extended this mid-way through the half when number eight Isaac Faamau, the club’s Player of the Year, got the touch on a pushover try for 8-0.

The home pack dominated the forward exchanges but after the substitution of tight-head prop Paul Taylor they struggled with a series of pushover attempts on the visitors’ line.

And they were punished for their profligacy when Salem fullback Danny Belcher brushed aside some flimsy tackles to power over and reduce the arrears to 8-5 at the break.

Playing with the wind, much was expected of the visitors in the second period but they conceded three tries in a period of five minutes after the re-start when prop Wesley Langkilde, full-back Ant Taylor and fly-half Tomasz Chadwick crossed to end the game as a contest at 23-5.

A Penalty from Ratcliffe stretched the lead but a late try gave the score-line respectability for the visitors at 26-10.
