Three sports teams from the Scarborough & District area were rewarded for their superb efforts throughout the year.
The Top Senior Playing Team Award went to the Scarborough Pirates rugby league club for their fantastic efforts on and off the pitch in 2012.
Under coach Chris Keld and club chief Dave Marsden, the Pirates managed to stay unbeaten throughout the 2012 campaign to win the Yorkshire Men’s Division Four title in comfortable fashion.
It is the first time in 20 overs that a rugby league team from Scarborough has won a regional league title, and the playing squad is mainly made up from players who have progressed through the club’s junior ranks.
A large group of players were present on the night to collect their award from Sian Harrison of Yorkshire Coast College.
Scarborough Athletic under-16s picked up the honours in the Top Playing Team Under-18 section.
The club’s under-16s side won the Hull Boys League Division Two title and won the Scarborough & District FA Minor League Cup to complete a double.
They also finished runners-up in the League Cup and managed to run the entire season without a single red or yellow card.
It was also the under-16s’ first season since forming.
The Top Primary Team Under-11s award went to the Scarborough Primary Team Gym Squad, which incorporated the girls and mixed team.
The girls team won the British Team Gym Championship in 2012 and the mixed team finished as runners-up, while they also won the Northern Team Gym Championships.
The group also participated within the Scarborough community as part of the Olympic torch celebrations.
The club were also in international action, finishing second in the Bracknell International Team Gym Tournament, capping a superb year for the club’s juniors.
