The hosts started slowly and an early penalty and converted try gave Beverley a deserved 10-point lead.

Scarborough started to get a foothold in the Yorkshire One game and after a period of pressure Matty Young went over in the corner to reduce the arrears.

Five minutes later Scarborough were in front, Devin Ibanez went over by the posts from close range and Hogg’s conversion made it 12-10.

Scarborough continued to press the Beverley line and on the stroke of half-time the visitors tried to run the ball out from close to their own line, however home skipper Matty Jones intercepted a loose pass to score a simple try.

Hogg converted to make it 19-10 at the break.

Things went from bad to worse for the visitors as they were reduced to 14 men. Isaac Faamau made the break supported by Jordi Wakeham who was cynically taken out off the ball as the Kiwi looked to offload.

Hogg was now kicking with confidence and make no mistake with the penalty to extend the lead to 22-10 and he extended it even further with a penalty from distance as the Seasiders made their advantage count.

The bonus-point win was secured when Matty Young went over for his second try and Hogg duly converted from the touchline to make it 32-10.

Despite losing Faamau to a yellow card, Scarborough’s defence held firm for a well deserved victory
