Scarborough Cricket Club slumped to a 92-run loss at home to Castleford in the Yorkshire League on Sunday.

The visitors batted first and fine knocks from James Sykes, 81no, and Will Simpson, 47, allied to cameos from Charles Finan, 35, Jarran Cook, 34, and Dominic Sharp, 28, took Castleford to 259-5 from their 55 overs.

Apart from Chris Grey, with 28, and skipper Andy Simpson, 21, no Scarborough batsman really impressed as the hosts sunk to 79-8 and then 103-9, until a 64-run stand between tail-enders Tom Precious, 67 not out off 64 deliveries, and Jordan Welford, eight off 44, gave the Scarborough total some semblance of respectability with 167 all out.

Alex Romaniw was the pick of the away team’s bowling attack with 5-42.
