Phil Watson has taken the captaincy at Scarborough RUFC.
Former skipper Nick Ingham has decided to step down after three years leading out the club’s first XV, and he will take up a new role as recruitment and retention officer.
Watson has landed the skipper’s role after only one season at the club, but SRUFC’s director of rugby Mike Holder doesn’t see that as a problem.
Holder said: “Phil came in last season and has had a massive impact both on and off the pitch.
“He is a very good player and I know he is fully committed to taking on this role.
“We considered several others for the role but Phil was the outstanding candidate and I’m sure he’ll lead from the front.”
Holder was also quick to pay tribute to former incumbent Ingham.
He added: “Nick has been a big player for the club and he will be taking up a new role as our recruitment and retention officer.
“He will be charged with bringing players to the club, while also helping to keep our best players here and working with our youth development officer Tom Harrison to bring the younger players into senior level.”
