SCARBOROUGH Art Gallery has lined up a trio of events this weekend to celebrate Valentine’s Day.
Firstly, one of its most important paintings being selected as part of Yorkshires finest 100 oil paintings. ‘Holidaymakers on the beach’, painted by T. Ramsay in 1775, depicts the earliest known use of bathing huts in the country. The painting is part of a Yorkshire wide project that has highlighted the top oil paintings in the county.
Then, on Sunday, members of staff and the Cultiv8 Group - a group of young people working with the Trust to develop new ides for the Cultural Olympiad in 2012 - will be armed with bows and quivers in the town centre as they try to capture people’s hearts with the artwork, while in the Gallery there will be some old fashioned magic.
Artist Pete McKee’s exhibition ‘Month of Sundays’ also opens this weekend.
