SCARBOROUGH’S very own Banksy has revealed himself.
Andrew Nurse, also known as Rew, is the brains behind the 9/11 memorial graffiti wall under the Wykeham Street road bridge.
The Scarborian has come forward to the Evening News after we featured his 30ft mural to the victims of 9/11.
The mural has received almost unanimous praise on the Evening News website, with posters branding it “superb” and “brilliant”, with one poster calling Mr Nurse “a true talent”.
He has now spoken to the paper and gave his reasons behind the stunning tribute.
He said: “I do this as part of a group, and we only do legal projects.
“We wanted to do something big, and it was around the time of the 9/11 anniversary, and we thought that as New York is the home of graffiti, we thought it would be the perfect tribute.”
Although he states that graffiti art is his passion, father-of-one Mr Nurse still holds down a day job as a cleaner to pay the bills.
He now hopes that nobody cleans away his own work.
