SCARBOROUGH may have its very own Banksy after a huge 9/11 memorial was spray painted overnight.

Pedestrians walking under the Wykeham Street road bridge couldn’t believe their eyes when the mural appeared yesterday morning.

The touching memorial pays tribute to the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York City, and features an image of the Twin Towers, as well as a fireman. The phrase “never forgotten” is painted in the top corner.

A passer-by, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “It’s absolutely incredible. I don’t usually like graffiti, but this is something else. I just hope it stays up long enough for everyone to see it.”

The mural comes only days after the tenth anniversary of the attacks, in which nearly 3,000 people perished.
