Bands’ summer showcase is a huge hit with audiences

There was a full house at Westborough Methodist Church Hall when Scarborough Area Music Centre’s six youth bands held their annual summer concert.

Compere for the evening, Emma Calvert, head of Eastern Area Music Service, introduced Jazz Train and then Ebony Clarinet Choir played a dreamy ‘Summer-time’ by George Gershwin.

Many of the EASY Jazz Bands members played improvised solos and jazz tune Georgia On My Mind featured vocals by Charlotte Brooke.

The Beginners Instrumental Group performed Mamma Mia and Revving Up – a piece written especially written for the band by its musical ddirector Clive Wass.

EASY Concert Band played Take Five by Dave Bruebeck and Movie Adventures.

The evening concluded with Junior Concert Band playing a lengthy extract from Lord of the Rings. Musicians of The Year trophies were presented to Sarah Hardwick of EASY Concert Band and Lawrence Marshall of EASY Jazz.

Jan Corrie, press officer for Scarborough Area Music Centre, said ‘All the bands taking part performed to a very high standard. It is amazing to see just how much these young people have developed over the past year.”

Orchestras and Guitar Groups of the Music Centre have their summer concert at Westborough Methodist Church at 7pm on Saturday. Tickets are obtainable on the door and everyone is welcome to attend.
