There are major events in in the Spa Orchestra’s diary this week – a Royal British Legion gala concert and the Peasholm Park centenary.

The first event is at the Spa Grand Hall today and then the ensemble moves to the bandstand in the park tomorrow.

All the music at the gala concert will relate to members of the Armed Forces.

Alongside wartime singalongs for the audience to join in, there will be the Military Wives’ recent hit song Wherever You Are.

The evening’s programme will culminate in an Act of Remembrance and the falling from above the stage thousands of poppy petals. The concert starts at 7.45pm.

The centenary concert in Peasholm will be filled with toe-tapping light music with James Bond themes rubbing shoulders with the famous Can Can and songs from the shows such as My Fair Lady.

After favourites like the Dambusters March and dance band numbers like Stormy Weather, the evening will finish with a Last Night of the Proms finale with Rule Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory cueing in the traditional magnificent fireworks display.

The show begins at 8pm and tickets will be available at the park gates.

Next week’s Spa Orchestra Thursday night gala concert will be a Viennese evening like the one which packed nearly a thousand people into the Grand Hall on New Year’s Day.
