A SCARBOROUGH chef will be competing in a prestigious competition at York Food Festival on Sunday.

Servanne Hooson, who is a commis chef at the Green Room in Victoria Road while training at Yorkshire Coast College, will participate in the festival’s Young Chef Of The Year against opposition from across the region.

Rob Porter, the owner of the Green Room, said it was a good opportunity for Servanne. He said: “I think it’s good experience for her and it brings on confidence. It’s quite a big show because it lasts for about 10 days – normal shows just happen over a weekend.”

He added that Servanne was feeling slightly nervous about the weekend but she should be okay. Mr Porter said: “This is her first competition – I didn’t want to put her in last year because she wasn’t ready.

She started out at the restaurant by helping out before becoming a member of staff. Her menu for the competition will include: pan seared fillet of mackerel, with courgette rosti, fennel sauerkraut and crab. The York Food Festival runs until September 25.
