A SCARBOROUGH nursery has been served up a treat as its kitchen is awarded the highest hygiene rating.
Harlequins Nursery, in Scardale Crescent, has been given a grade five hygiene certificate from the Food Standards Agency.
It is the first time the nursery’s kitchen has been rated since opening two years ago.
Nursery owner Joe Brierley, who cooks alongside nursery chef Karen Bailey, said: “Myself and Karen are very pleased to have achieved grade five status.
“Food hygiene and cleanliness is very important to us, even more so as we cook for young children.
“We will now be working on continually improving and making sure we maintain the highest grading for future inspections.”
Food Hygiene grades start at 0, meaning “urgent improvement neccessary” to 5, which is classed as “very good”, and are awarded following an inspection from one of Scarborough Council’s food safety officers.
The nursery kitchen at Harlequins provides lunch and tea for children aged up to five years old.
