THE headliners have been revealed for next month’s Acoustic Gathering in Peasholm Park.

The free one-day music festival will take place on Sunday September 11 and will be headlined by 80s stars Red Box.

The band scored two huge global hits with Lean on Me (ah-li-ayo) in 1985 and For America in 1986, both of which were included on their debut album The Circle and the Square, followed by the single Train and second album, Motive in 1990. Last year they returned with their third album, Plenty.

Organiser Steve Dickinson said: “Red Box were having hits when I was 15 and now they are coming to Scarborough to headline Acoustic Gathering. They have a new album out, which is a great record, the whole town should turnout for this one!”

The gathering will welcome 32 acts in total, with Edwina Hayes, Jesse Hutchinson and Ishka among the artists to be confirmed so far.

The full list of acts will be announced soon.

Mr Dickinson added: “It’s also fantastic to welcome back Edwina Hayes who performed back in 2008 and caused quite a stir when she appeared for autographs up at the merchandise stall, and as usual the local talent on the bill is outstanding.

“With the UNISON breakthrough artists making the number of acts up to a staggering 32 in 10-and-a-half hours, it will be a great day for the musicians and music lovers of Scarborough.”

The sixth annual event will kick off at midday and run non-stop until 10.30pm.

The five-minute turnaround between each act will be filled by a UNISON sponsored breakthrough artist, a feature introduced last year.

The stars that have shone the brightest since will be promoted to a full set, while the rest will be hand picked from open mic nights and the local music scene by the festival organisers. They will be given the chance to perform one song to showcase their talent on the lakebound stage.

In 2010 hundreds of music lovers basked in the sun at the event, which was headlined in 2010 by Dogan Mehment and the Deerhunters, supported by Jon Gomm.

Local performers included Tom Townsend, My Forever and Amaya.
